It currently has a Dynatek 2000 Ign. module and it ran before and after the install. all of a sudden, now, it doesnt seem to give any spark! Is there a chance the Dyna 2000 could 'fry'? My bud and i checked the whole charging system - good - . New spark plugs, coils seem to be fine, starter turns, compression is evident. Did the spark plug-manifold test, and no spark........ Any suggestions?[-o<

I'm not an expert on this but there were different coils used on the GS. SOme had 3 ohms resistance others had 5 ohms. It might be your ig module was mismatched with the coils.
If you can go back to stock I would. THe 1150 is a monster and I personally cannot imagine needing more power from that beast.
But then again I drive a 650G so I am more humble about motorcycle acceleration.1981 GS650G , all the bike you need

If you will look at the sidestand, you will see the switch and wires of the sidestand switch. Its an always off, momentary on switch. When the sidestand is up, the switch is held in the on position and you have a completed ignition circuit. A quick temp fix is to bypass the switch and connect its two wires. Also, you can go to Lowes/Home Depot and buy a button type off/momentary on switch that will work with some minor creativity. I did that on my 1150 when the switch went bye bye. :-)
If it isnt the switch, it may be the R/R overcharging at too much voltage.
That will destroy a Dyna 2000 ignition system. It did on mine. I had to replace the R/R and send the Dyna to their service center.
The Dyna does not have a "cut off" feature for the sidestand switch. The switch simply cuts off the current before it reaches the Dyna.

Hmmm, well Bruce, since you're the original owner of yours, its pretty safe to say yours is probably stock or at least, if it had been changed, you would most likely know about it. LOL All I can tell you is on the one I bought from David Price about 5 years ago, the ignition was inoperative if the sidestand was down. I just figured they were manufactured that way.

If the light stays on with the switch closed, either the switch is bad or the wire going to it is grounding out. Sounds like you need to get the wiring diagram on the Dyna 2000 and see where everything is hooked up to see if the problems are related.

Time to get a voltage meter on the dyna and see if your getting power to it. Work the sidestand switch and see if power is interrupted or anything else changes.
