    Intake & Exhaust Cam Duration

I need to find out the intake and exhaust cam duration for my GS550B Suzuki. To explain further how far does the intake valve open BTDC and how much ABDC does it close. And with the exhaust how far does the valve open BBDC and how far ATDC does it close.

I cannot find this info in any of my manuals and other literatute that I possess. Can anyone tell me the details that I need to know or tell me where to find it out please. I have searched the internet and could not find anything there either.

    Cheers

One of the reputable performance shops/cam grinding guys would know this info, speak to your local speed merchant.
Otherwise beg, borrow or steal a degree wheel off one of your mates, bolt it onto the end of the crank, pull the tappet cover and start making notes.

    Hope this helps.

The Suzuki shop manual for my 1100E lists all of the cam specs in it. Maybe hit your local dealer up for a look through the factory shop books?

Looked through the 550 factory manual and can't find any cam timing information.

Can anyone out there help me with this information. The Suzuki dealers in my area would not know what a GS was and definately would not be bothered to help out in any way.

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE CAM TIMING FOR A GS550B

          Cheers

The duration #'s for my wife's "85" GS 550 are from the Suzuki manual. IN.. open 38 before top & close 50 after bottom. EX. opens 64 before bottom & closes 24 after top. Manual doesn't say where readings are taken, .001 off seat, .005 off seat, or .025 off seat, who knows. Probably no help to you as the "85" models were 16 valve engines. In my manual, in the engine section, under camshaft, there is only a picture of the end of a camshaft, with the #'s written in.

Thanks rphillips. I will have a look in my manual again, but this information is very scarce.

Thanks RPHILLIPS. I did find the diagram you referred to in my '77 Suzuki manual. I must have browsed over it looking for a table or some other format. Its amazing how you can miss something and it is there staring you in the face all the time. The timing is a bit different to yours -- 26/54; 54/26. Total of 260 degrees duration. Thanks again.
