    GS259 jetting

    Hi all. I have an 81 GS250T engine in an offroad buggy I built. Due to the fabricated exhaust and extended intake track I need to rejet as it is running lean. Does anyone have any idea what the stock pilot and main jet are in this thing. I am looking for both the size and type of jets so I can go ahead and order new jets before I remove the carbs. Here's a pic of the project so far.

      Great looking buggy Wayne. Do you have any pics of the drive setup? I'm guessing it's probably chain to the diff's pinion - based on what I perceive the length of the thing to be.

        Could be there is an adapter on the front sprocket shaft that bolts directly to the diff (engine mounted sideways). This is generally what you do with a bike engine in a car (such as a Caterham 7 or similar). Bolts right up to the prop.

        I've also seen an engine in a mini where the chain goes to a sprocket whcih changes direction of travel & bolts to the diff.....

          It's almost for sure going to need several jets to try before you will get it right. Several shops near me actually stock a whole range of jets, so I can get them as I need them. Call around and you might get lucky in this regard.

            Thanks for all the replies. This forum is awesome! You guys helped me out with ignition problems a year ago and I knew it was the place to ask. Ok I have the stock sizes..does anyone know which jets, ie: large round slotted, small round slotted, pilot with or without holes? I will get a few sizes to dial it in but I don't have a dealer with a variety nearby so will have to order online.Model number of carb? Doesn't seem to be any numbers on the outside.
            I don't have a closeup of the drive right now..I'll try and get one for you. The engine is mounted same as it would be in a bike, chain to a transmission from a polaris ATV (provides reverse and hi/lo range). From there the chain drops to a fabbed carrier with the sprocket, brake disc and CV flanges I turned in my garage on an old Reed Prentiss lathe. Started out to make a small suspended gocart...turned into an obsession! My buddies an I have a short 1/8 mile dirttrack we ride on for a little friendly competition and this has been a fun way to get out of the house and get creative!
