    Hi Guys does anyone know if the gs850 side panels are indentical to gs1000g,In the UK i can only source repro panels for the 850 or does anyone know of another source apart from scrap/junk/breakers...Cheers Paul J...

    I have just compared mine GS1000GT (1980) to a GS850GT (1980) and they seem to be the same. If yours is another year and model then it could differ.
    Could you let me have the source in the UK for the repro covers if possible

      Are you replacing missing or damaged panels? If they are damaged, it may be possible to have them/it repaired. I have sucessfully repaired one of mine.

          Both are damaged on central round fixture no plastic stud!!!!

            I repaired one of mine for the same reason. I used a 6mm bolt about the same length as the original stud and ground the head to a domed shape. I then cut a piece of 1.6m (1/16'') thick steel about 30mm square. I drilled four small holes in the plate to allow an epoxy resin to key onto the steel and the inside suraface of the cover.
            Next a nut was screwed onto the bolt and I lightly tack welded the nut to the plate. I made one small tack so that I could adjust the angle of the bolt to align correctly to the rubber doenut on the bike frame. I then did two small welds to secure the nut to the plate. After the nut and bolt has been welded to the plate the whole assy can be glued to the cover. Take care to align the new spigot correctly before the glue sets.
            If you don't have the original spigots as samples, I can take a pic of my repair.
