    Gs850 Speedo Info Needed

Help required. I am fitting an instrument cluster from a GS850 to my GS550B. Coming out of the rear of the speedo are two wires. One is black with red tracer and the other is blue with a red tracer. They both go to a unit inside the speedo. I think the gadget they go to is called a "distance sensor" going by the wiring diagram for the GS850 that Basscliff gave me. Can anyone tell me what a "distance sensor" is and what it does and do I need to connect it up to anything on the 550?

    Cheers

It activates the automatic turn signal controller. If you put the flasher on and turn, once you again exceed 14km/h (this is the sensor) then a timer switches off the flasher after 9 seconds. Not sure if the speed and time period is the same for all models though.

I agree, it's the distance sensor. Since your bike does not have the auto-cancel feature for the turn signals, just leave them loose, but put them where they won't be in the way.

Global village! Great for the good stuff, but unfortunately the bad stuff also goes around like this!

Thanks guys. Appreciate your input so quickly. Have snipped the wires off appropriately and am currently slodering everything back together. As soon as this job is done the exhaust camshaft comes out ready for the new one. thanks again guys.
