need a replacement muffler. part number on my bad muffler is 4940. part number on possible replacement is 4942.

    are they interchangable?

What kind of part numbers are those? Suzuki part numbers are longer and typically have two parts.

Big thing is to look at the way the muffler mounts to the frame. 79, 80, 81 850 and 1000s all mounted the same. the 81 1100 and 82 850 mufflers look similar but mount completely different.

The g exhaust is slightly different to the E. I have an E exhaust on mine that TPO fitted, it needs spacer plates at the back & causes some problems with the side & centre stands.....
