    Newbie VIN question...

    Hi,
I am 17 and getting my motorcycle license on the 19th of this month
(April) . For my first bike I wanted to get a GS650, I looked
around and found one, the owner says its a 1981 GS650L, but
my insurance guy said he couldn't find a 650L for that year.
So, my question: Is there really a 1981 GS650L? I know this is
the place for GS questions, so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

It's really a GS650GL (if it's a shaftie, and I think it is). Hope that helps.

I agree......in fact, it might also be considered GS650GLX, since it's an '81, right?

Wow that got replied to quick, thanks.
        Two more questions:
        1-umm... whats a "shaftie"?
2-Does anybody know off the top of their head, or a website where
i can find out, all the different GS650s made for 1981?
Thanks a lot for the help, i appreciate it!

A shaftie is a bike driven with a shaft, like a car, instead of a chain or belt.
A good place to look is right here in the gallery pages, or http://www.bikez.com.
