Hello ,,from Alabama. I'm New Here And Have A Very Old And Slow Computer.probably Because I Blow All My Fun Money On Guitars,,fishing,,and Now An Old Bike. I've Been Reading The Forums And Have Gathered A Lot Of Good Info From All You Gs Guys.i Recently Purchased A 1978 Gs 550e That I;m Having Trouble Finding Parts For.right Now I Need The Air Box Boots, Or The Airbox With The Boots In It. By Reading Some Of The Threads. I Gather The Boots Should Be Soft. I Destroyed The Two Middle Ones Dummy'n Around Getting The Carbs Off For Cleaning. A Lot Of Sites Require The Part #.has Anyone Got This #? I;m Taking This Project One Baby Step At A Time Until I'm Sure The Motors Gonna Be Good.any Info On These Would Be Greatly Appreciated....oljo From Alabam

Hi from OZ. I'm afraid the news is all bad. They do not supply the airbox or boots as an after market part and Suzuki do not supply it either. Or at least that is my understanding. I have tried to track these bits down for my GS550B model to no avail.

Good morning all, I called Flatout in late December because I was considering replacing my airbox boots (which turned out to be fine). The guy I spoke with said they had them in stock (at least he was pretty sure they did) but he did refer me to the online sales person. I didn't call back so I can't confirm if they really do have them or not.

I think Suzuki Don is correct. When I called Flatout, I was looking for boots for my '81 GS850G. I just check for the '78 GS550E and it looks like it is not available. Call them (317-890-9110) or email them to find out.

No problem Ed. We are all here to help each other, even if sometimes we don't always get it right first time round. In the end we correct each other and come up with the right result and everyone learns something in the finish. I have just pulled the cylinder head off my 550 and am not sure how the front rubber cam chain guide fits back in. I had a hell of a time getting it out. So I will be asking for others help in the not too distant future.

For The Many Responses To My Questions To Everyone.i'm Goin Searchin Some More Tonite Online.the Local Suzuki Mechanic Says I Had Better Go With Pods.i've Read A Lot Of Yall's Post's On This Subject And Am Unsure. Looks Like I Might Try Em. For Now While I;m Not Sure Of The Over All Shape Of This Bike Yet.i Got Plenty Of Time,although We Get A Couple Of Days Of. 60 Degree Weather Every Now And Then Here Around Decatur Alabama.get A Little Anxious To Get Er Goin. Perhaps you've already seen these, but I like to remind all the new members. In addition to the carb rebuild series, I recommend visiting the garage section via the GSR Hompage and check out the Stator Papers. There's also a lot of great information in the Old Q&A section. I have some documentation on my little BikeCliff website to help get you familiar with routine maintenance tasks (note that it is 850G-specific but many tasks are common to all GS bikes). Other "user contributed" informational sites include those of Mr. bwringer, Mr. tfb and Mr. robertbarr.

I'll try to find that list of our favorite online vendors so you can file it away for your parts needs. It's on my computer at home.

I would definitely double and triple the recommendations to use Cycle Recycle II and Z1 Enterprises as much as possible. These guys are priceless resources. Z1 tends to have slightly better prices, CRC2 has a wider range of goodies available. If you're near Indy and can bring in an old part to match, CRC2 has a vast inventory of used parts.
