Cutting wieght on my gs motor
I am looking to cut some weight off my gs1000 motor I only need 1 gear so I was thinking of taking the rest of the gears and shift forks out. But before I do I wanted to get everyone else's opinion. If you have any other ideas on trimming the weight on a GS motor let me know. :-DTags: None

Sounds odd only needing 1 gear but i guess you have your reasons! Easy way to dump weight is bin the starter motor if you don't need it.79 GS1000S
79 GS1000S (another one)
80 GSX750
80 GS550
80 CB650 cafe racer
75 PC50 - the one with OHV and pedals...
75 TS100 - being ridden (suicidally) by my father

I am building a hillclimber gs1000 motor in a motocross/street bike frame with a extended swing arm. I am going to be rebuilding the motor to make competitive racer. While I build the motor I am going to try a cut some weight.

you could lose the starter, alternator & cover (replace with a flat plate), cam cover ends, top breather (but you need somethin on there) front sprocket cover, some weight off the crank depending on how you want it to spin up, trim the fins it its not run for long periods or cross drill the fins like the yoshi gs's
there ya go thats a few more pounds lost all you need now is 150bhp lol :-D

You can loose the starter, rotor, stator & related parts. Just Use a total loss system. Use a starter plate like the drag racers do for external/removable starter

Unless he can relocate the oil pickup in the pan, he will need at least as much oil as the stock motor, especially since he will be going up hill at a severe angle and all the oil will flow to the rear of the motor case.
