And I'd ride 58 to ride 58, not to get to bakersfield. If I really had to get out there quickly I'd at least do 41 -> 46, I'm about 3 blocks from 41.

I'm 5/8 done, I have to really crouch over the bike to do it so my back doesn't like a lot of it (I'm gonna have horrible joint pain later in life, I already get it easily and pop a lot at 20...).

We're thinking of different stretches of 58 I think. The parts that I consider to be the most fun: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=3...,0.090637&z=14
I'm more into twisty roads than freeway, although until I get new tires I won't be too quick on them, there have been a couple times that I've had to slow down because I start consistently stepping the tail out, not a good feeling on the street.

When I first came to CA I took that route to the coast. It took forever and I got buzzed by a jet. I thought my car was blowing up. Would of been VERY fun on a bike.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

A favorite ride of mine is 41 -> 229 -> 58 -> 33 -> 150 -> 101, it's a decent day's ride. 58 and 229 are right in my backyard, and some of the best roads around...
if you've got some time to watch it, http://lolinter.net/4theriders/video/slo.wmv shows some fairly fast riders on roads around here - single lane with stripes on the edges = 229, 2 lanes = 58, single line with no paint = peachy canyon.

Those are some wicked roads. Are they one lane but traffic flows both ways? I think I saw someone flash past about half way into it. If its 2 way traffic it could be very hairy.Be real nice if it were one way. How long is that stretch?
Now you know its not fair to tease us snow bound northeners:-D to make amends you better send an airline ticket with your bike keys attached. Have the bike gassed and ready to go at the airport. I'll bring my lid and leathers.\\/
Roll on spring!
cheers,
Spyug.

Yep, those are all two way roads. You have to be very careful to not outride your sight distances, and hope that people coming the other way don't outride theirs.
It's about 5.5 miles of 229 that's like that, and of course there are plenty of other fun roads around that. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...3&ie=UTF8&z=12 shows the section of 229 I'm talking about - 58 near there (especially just west of 229) is also great.
Road & Track recently did an article called "Four V8s to Creston", which is at the north end of 229. http://lolinter.net/rt.jpg is one of the pictures they put in in, which doesn't seem too safe to me on a public 2 lane road - and I'd be very surprised if it was officially closed when they took that picture.

I'm not sure, not my videos and I'm not in any of them - I just host them for the guy, as I've got more webspace than I know what to do with.
