I'm not so sure that Redex isn't the same thing as Seafoam in the UK. Another fuel additive that claims to be the panacea for all things motorised.

    I stand to be corrected.

      More uses for Sea Foam

Sea Foam also makes a delicious dessert topping and a terrific floor wax!

      (I couldn't help it. Sorry.)

If I put my tank on today (or tomorrow) but don't ride it for another month or so, is it alright to fill with gas and Sea Foam and let it sit until I do ride it? Does the Sea Foam also act as a stabilizer?

As I mentioned, I use Seafoam all the time and yes it is used as a stabilizer.

I generally put a couple or 3 caps full in a full tank. If I'm going to leave it for a month or more I might put double that amount.

As I run it all year round I know that there is always some in the gas sitting in the carbs so I don't worry about carb gunge. Depending on where your gas comes from and how old it may be it can turn skunky in a relatively short time. I've been told even as quickly as 4 or 5 weeks.

Don't worry at all about it sitting for a few days.

            Hope this helps.
            Cheers,

Thanks, I'm putting the tank on this week. Now, all I can hope for is a nice day to take it out.

Sorry to put a negative on this....but it's partially the reason for me parting out my gs550.

Short story....I put it in the tank, ran the bike, next morning started up fine but would not shift. I don't know if it messed with the clutches etc. but I won't touch the stuff again.

                      Very interesting Mr. khardrunner14.

Is it possible that gas was leaking into your crankcase? It is possible to use Sea Foam in your crankcase oil to clean that system too, but it must be removed and the oil changed within a short time (50 miles or so).

Or could it be coincidence? You never got the tranny to work again? I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. I wish you luck parting out your bike.

                      Thank you for your indulgence,

I would be very interested to know how a fuel additive could affect your clutch. Also how clutch issues would prevent being able to shift. It would make it hard to get rolling, granted, but shifting once moving doesn't require any clutch at all.

Putting seafoam in your fuel will not affect the clutch. If you put it in your oil, perhaps...it is designed to put in the crankcase of cars/trucks, but since mc's have wet clutches, I would not risk it...

so, if you just added it to your fuel and your clutch went out, there was something else that happened (lots of smaller parts in there that can fail...shift forks, pawls, etc.)
