850- where's the drain?

    The 850 and 1000 starters are identical. I didn't have this problem when I replaced the starter on my 1000 many years ago.

    I'll try the long screwdriver method and see if the holes line up.

    The holes are not in the wrong place, the starter nose just doesn't seem to want to go all the way into the case, making it seem like the starter is somehow too long

            Yes, yes it is.

            I'll be checking the hole in the case today and regreasing the nose, then prying on it as necessary.

            I want to see if this thing will run, even badly
