    Clearcoat Finish for Fuel Tank

I am planning to paint my GSX1100 and would like to use Por15 Glisten PC as the clear finish. It is a 2-Pack product however I can't find details on their site that states if it is suitable as a fuel tank finish, is it a catalyzed urethane? Has anyone used this product on their tank as a finish, and did it survive the fuel spills? Cheers.

I am pretty sure it is a polyurethane . One of the chemicals in the product is 1,6-Hexamethylene Diisocyanate and I'm pretty sure that is the catalyst for a type of polyurethane. I checked out the MSDS (material safety data sheet) for the chemicals.

Thanks for the reply Ed, so its O.K. for the tank as its a 2 -pack (hardener added) product polyurethane?

I'm not a chemist but I would l think that once it is hardened, it should be fine. The web site says it is good for all metal surfaces.

Seems to be designed for use on bare metal surfaces, not as a top coat for painted surfaces.

My opinion is to use automotive catalized urethane. Designed for painted surfaces. My favorite is PPG 2001/2002 clear if you can get it in your area. Great stuff and very easy to spray.

            Thanks Nessism,
will use the Glisten PC for the polished rims and alloy fittings and look for automotive catalized urethane for the tank finish. There is a Por15 agent near by, maybe they can get PPG 2001/2002 clear?
