Speedo problem
I just bought a 1980 850L and on the way home, about 100 miles into the trip, the speedo quit working. Also, neither odometer is working. I also noticed the tach needle bounces a lot, and doesn't seem to want to go above 4500 rpm. Any thoughts?Tags: None

The speedometer and odometer run off the same cable and your cable is likely broken and needs replacement. You could try oiling the tach cable to cure that problem, but it probably better to just order a new tach cable when you order the speedo cable.

I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself than be crowded on a velvet cushion. H.D.T.

Regardless, Earl's right - replace your cables. If the speedo still doesn't work, check the speedo drive. It may not have been mounted properly when the wheel was mounted sometime in the past. If both the cable and drive are good, then the speedo might be bad.
However, since it worked for awhile I expect it's ok. Get the new cables then go from there.
