I have a 1980 GS550L and my choke cable froze recently (probably from being left in the rain one too many times).
So I got a choke cable off ebay that was supposed to fit, but it doesn't. It's from Parts Unlimited (part number K28-2148) which is supposed to replace OEM part number 58400-45110. From looking at online microfiche, that's the correct OEM part number.
So I'm trying to figure out if there's something wrong on my end (like maybe I have some 1979 parts on my bike or something because they were using up old stock as they switched to the 1980 model) or theirs (wrong part, somehow).
I've included a picture of the old and new choke cables. They're the same length. The major issue is at point (A). The plastic threads there, which must screw into the steering column, don't match the old ones. The sides of the threaded part on the new cable are also flattened off, but that probably doesn't cause much of a problem. The other decent issue is at point (B), where there's an extra plastic collar (which kind of implies that the new choke cable is supposed to be installed from the opposite direction as the old one). However, if the threads matched, I could just grind that off.
So, any thoughts? Does anyone recognize either cable and know if they're supposed to go to a different year? Any info would be helpful!
Thanks,
Tyler
