While I await my shop manual, how do I remove a 1979 GS1000 battery? Its buried in the bike and I'm not sure where to start taking things apart to get to it.

start with the seat,if thetool tray is on board that would be next....got a 10 mm wrench handy? you'll need that or a phillips screwdriver....and you should be on your way.....[-o< -
It is right underneath the airfilter housing, so that will need to be removed. Then the battery lifts out. Consider switching to an AGM battery so as not to have to worry about battery maintenance.NO PIC THANKS TO FOTO BUCKET FOR BEING RIDICULOUS

On my 78, I lift the seat and remove the right side cover. Remove the bolt that holds the rear master cylinder resevoir. Remove the rear bolt and front clamp on the airbox.
Pull the airbox back, wiggle the extension around the resevoir, and the airbox will come right out. The battery is in plain sight and easy to get to.1978 GS 1000 (since new)
