problems
my bike doesnt start on anything but full choke and even then it struggles to idle, it goes to about 1k. im waiting for it too cool down before i can do a compression test. just recently replaced a valve and it has been ridden a lot since then.

Sounds like the carbs are gummed up. IF you've replaced the O rings before, use some Techron or Seafoam in the gas and see what happens.

Also look for the obvious, like undeated intake boots, or the airbox holed/cracked/opened up.
What do the plugs look like?

i replaced orings recently(last 6 months or so), airbox is sealed, and the plugs are black, from running on choke i guess. if i run seafoam through the tank, will it hurt my tank liner? i used it from kbs-coatings, and it says that nothing can take it off. i guess i just answered my own question.

where is the ticking coming from?? Valve train? Lower? Cam tensionor? use a screwdriver to the ear as a stethescope. Works better than you think. I had what sounds to be the same intermitant ticking noise coming from my 750 motor, and after using said method found it to be likely coming from the cam tensioner. if that's the case, check BWringers cam chain tensioner rebuild tutorial. Not saying that will get rid of your idle problem, but it might get rid of the ticking. BTW, did you check your cam chain timing when you put the head back together?

i will try the screwdriver thing. i did check the timing, four times.
also, my real gasket is leaking a lot in the front. this is my second one and i did not over tighten it. there arent any scratches on the valve cover that could create oil paths. and by leaking i mean dripping.Last edited by Guest; 03-02-2008, 12:58 PM.

update: stupid mistake on my part. the not idling problem was caused by the idle speed screw being too far out. incredibly stupid. it still doesnt idle that well but im hoping when i tune the mixture and sync the carbs it will get better.
