    Gs550 Camchain Adjuster Info Needed

    I have read Bwringer's article on doing repairs to the camchain tensioner. His example is on a GS850. In his article he shows a large and a small "O" ring and an oil seal. On the GS550B ('77) fiche it only shows the small "O" ring. Does anyone know if my model has the larger "O" ring and oil seal. If so what would the part numbers for these parts be please?

    I've heard back from people all over the world with everything from a GS400 on up, and so far the procedure, seal, and o-rings are the same on all the GS cam chain tensioners. The base gaskets are different, obviously, and many tensioners are different shapes, but they all work the same, and the seal and o-rings are the same.

    The page was created exactly because the fiches don't show all the parts needed.

    Or look at it this way -- at most, you're gambling $2... :-D

        Thanks Brian. That was what I needed to know. I have the carbs off and thought I would do the camchain tensioner while there was a bit of space available.

          Someone on this forum, whose name I have sadly completely forgotten (anyone remember who it was?), knew that the tensioners were very similar, and rummaged through fiches for many different models until he collected the part numbers for the two o-rings and the seal. I think they finally popped up on the fiche for a later model shaftie.

          Throwing caution to the wind, he gambled $3 or $4 of his own money, and lo and behold, the parts worked fine on his GS850.

          Several other people also tried out these part numbers on other models and they seemed to work as well.

          After a while, I got tired of seeing the same question pop up over and over and over and over and over and over again ("What's this greasy leaky thing under here with the knob?"), so I documented my CCT rebuild for the edification of all.
