1982 GS 1100: K&N Pods?
I am rebuilding the stock carbs on my 82 GS1100 GLZ and I was wondering what smarter more experienced folks might tell me about K&N Pods. They look really cool and I would not mind losing the stock airbox, but I don’t want to complicate my life with a goofy “upgrade”. I am not a racer, just a street/commuter/cruiser guy. Would these filters be a good move for me, or should I just leave well enough alone? Your advice, as always, is very much appreciated!Tags: None

If it's running well & you don't have an aftermarket exhaust on it then leave well alone. Pods involve re-jetting the carbs with a dynojet kit or similar. You won't get the best out of them without an exhaust either plus your gas mileage will go down at least 15% so that might hurt the commute....

Monk,
I am putting on a new V&H 4 into 1, so re-jetting is going to happen anyway. Any suggestions, O Salty one? :-D

Path of least resistance is pods and Dynojet Stage 3 kit. Chances are pretty good you can just bolt these parts on and go ride. If you keep the stock airbox with the pipe, you may need jetting changes but they won't be as drastic and you will be pretty much on your own - unless you can find a Stage 2 kit which don't seem to be available these days. http://www.dynojet.com/jetkits/motor...zuki.aspx#1000Ed

I would probably be happy to sell the air-box, if you are not in a hurry. I would want to be sure the new setup works good first. In my part of the country, wheels won't probably be on the road until first week of May.

Hey Nessism,
Thanks for the advice. While I am picking your brains,
what do you know about the dyna 2000 ignition, is this a good upgrade? Is it worth the price?

1st week of may may be a bit long. Since I moved to Vancouver I always forget that most of the North American continent is in an icy bitter cold state in winter. I'm hoping to take a trip to Vancouver island on my bike for easter and the only piece that i'm missing that isn't on order already is an air box.

Yeah, this long New England winter is really el-sucko. I've got four feet of snow on my front lawn as we speak.
My winter bike project keeps me thinking of spring, otherwise I would go completely bonkers. 8-[
