Well, if you think leaving them out is ok, then I won't sweat it.

but take your vesrah gasket and those rings and see if you think the way they fit (or DONT fit) together makes any sense
now place the gasket on the head (without the rubber rings) and see if you think there might be any reason for a leak
now imagine when the rings sit only PARTIALLY on the gasket, how squished and twisted they must get once you tighten the head nuts
i think the original gasket is more difficult/expensive to make so vesrah came up with this simpler/cheaper gasket, but then added the rings "on the side" so the gasket theoretically resembles the original more closely

I'm fine with them left out. If it leaks, I'll get an oem gasket.

dont have the manuals on me and may be mistaken as i have various manuals so i was speaking from memory
but i remember something to do with the alignment of that round plate on the ignition side, i think i recall it can be "missaligned" a few degrees each side from the "correct" centre position
there's some lines there that have to match, but you can miss-match them by a few degrees
hopefully, i'm not adding to the confusionGS850GT

stupid maybe.. but when I hear 4 rubber rings... and complete gasket set... I think the rubber rings that are supposed to go under the block into the crank area on bottom of the sleeves... my head gasket just had the metal ring molded into it which I believe I did face up so head crushed them down.
There maybe something in differences between the 1000 and 750 so dismiss this if I am completely wrong *newbie in training*:-D

um, here's my advice, put the dowel pins in the cylinder side as to line up your vesrah gasket. put the gasket on. put the 4 rubber coated washers (exposed metal side down is how I put mine) over your outside stems and you'll notice the holes on the gasket are larger on the outside stems to make room for the rubber washers. The OEM gasket has the gasket and rubber washers as a single unit.Last edited by Guest; 03-08-2008, 05:18 PM.

On Friday after work i decided to remove the head again and check the gaskets - rather do it now with the carbs and exhaust off - than later.
I agree with Doctor Nick regarding the small gasket/seal rings - i also came to this conclusion after having another look - they go inside the copper rings. I figure that they wouldnt include them for no reason.
Also - the head gasket cannot be re used - most of the soft outer gasket was damaged removing the head as it had bonded nicely to the cylinder block surface, despite never having been hot. I have another Vesrah one coming (about 1/5th the price of an OEM gasket incidentally).
Cheers
