    New coil installation issues

Ok- I ordered OEM replacement coils from Z1 for my '79 GS 550L. I seem to be having wiring issues. Can anyone tell me roughly what kind of voltage I should be seeing on the primary side of the coil both across the + and -, from good ground to +, from - to the battery, and what voltage should be from + to - on the coil with the engine running.
I know it's a lot, but please help- I hate electrons! Thanks- Mark W.

If you still have points ? Block the points open when checking voltage at the coil. The only measurement when running would be to check for 12V at the (+) terminal

I do still have points- how do I block them open? Sorry- first points ride! My old MG already had the points dizzy swapped out, so I'm clueless- thanks! Mark W.

All you need is an insulator. A piece of paper or a matchbook cover works very nicely.

OK- I got the coils running alright, but now I have no power past 6 grand- is that points, or what? It feels like it's just cutting out after that. Also, what should the plugs be gapped to? Going to check the points- the spec is on the fender for that Mark W.
