    PITA LED's

    OK I had just 2 LED lights on my bike with no issues. I added two more and totally tossed the stockers every where.

    Well I am running into an issue where it only blinks when I am at higher RPMS (around like 2k). So I assume for some reason they seem to be requiring more juice which is the opposit of what I was told about LED's.

    Anyone have any ideas on something I can grab locally to fix the problem? I think I heard something on hear about trailer light flashers at wal-mart or something once upon a time.

    do you have an electronic flasher? i seem to have no problems with LED's flashing with the flasher i got at a car parts store for less than $10.

      I got my flasher at an auto parts store for like $2 or something like that. Its that little two pronged dome type thing.

        it's probably a mechanical flasher. electronic flashers don't need as much power to work. they usually cost a bit more. i think there are several flasher threads if you do a search that would explain the difference better than i can.

            This looks like the one I got cheap at Napa

            The cardboard packaging will have the word "Loud" on it and it is two prong. Works with my combination where one of the four signals is a LED array and was previously keeping the stock flasher from working.

              if you have LED's both front and rear the flasher wont work right as even the electronic one needs a certain amount of current flow to work correctly.

              it is possible to modify a electronic flasher so it has a dedicated ground and will work with all LED flashers or grote makes a special flasher with a ground lead.

                So ground the G terminal on a three pronger directly to the frame?

                  I have found a article online from a jeep forum that tells how to open a standard electronic flasher and where to solder on a ground wire.

                  led tail lights are a popular mod with the jeep folks.

                  you can also solder in ballast resistors to make up for the loss of load when you switch to LED's

                  the ballast resistors is a good idea as removing electrical load from a GS is actually a bad idea.

                  the charging system on a GS shunts excess current to ground via the R&R. reduce the load on the charging system and more current has to be shunted and the R&R gets hotter. not a good thing.

                  the motorcycle industry is strange as they switch back and forth using both AC generators and actual alternators.

                  the Suzuki GT750 had a alternator and they regulate current output my controlling the field strength of the rotor, they then switch to the system used on the GS that has permanent magnets so the field can not be controlled. (the stator is putting out 100% all the time) but then switched back to a alternator on the GSXR engine and right back again with the current engines.

                  there is a reason why ALL cars use alternators and not generators. they are far more efficient. why motorcycle manufacturers still use AC generators is beyond me.
