    Pods...

    I am really contimplating going the pods route atm.. I still use stock exhaust though and have not obtained a V&H 4-1 just yet... I have a spare set of carbs I figured I start researching jetting. for this and what type of K&N Pods I would need to snag *could i use the ones that have two inlets?*... that way i could just get two of those guys and not need 4 individual ones for the carbs?

    I know less someone had a spare kit I would need probably get the stage 3

    The obvious way to go is to buy the stage 1 or 3 kit from DynaJet and four K&N pods. Three of my machines are set up in that manner.

    However, I have had some luck using a cheaper type of pod-filter. A number of times I have used the Uni-filter pods (foam) and have not had to purchase a Dynajet kit. When using the Uni-filters (you can purchase thru Dennis Kirk) I find that sometimes no change in jetting is required at all. Other times I found that it was necessary to raise the jet needle just a "washer" or bump the main-jet up one size. The Uni-filters are foam and much more restrictive to air flow that the K&Ns. Therefore less jetting manipulations are required.

      Since it tends to rain here rather often and I have been caught numerious times outdoors how do pods hold up in steady rain?

      I suppose I can give the plug reads a chance with the cheaper foam filters since it is not overly dusty here..do you have pics for the foam ones you used? or did you always go with the K&N?

      If I wanted to go with K&N what would be the proper filters for my CV carbs? Just so I have referance...

        Pods RU0984 & DJ Kit 3103 for an 80 1000 on 34 CV's, as you have the smaller 32's you may need a different one. Check the DJ & K&N websites for a listing.

          You won't need any "filters" if you decide to go with either K&Ns or the UNI-foams. Both are "self-contained" filters; they only require that you keep them oiled with air-filter oil.

            I remember oiling the one I had on my rally car... one dusty event and a plume of dust made me pay with busting a very expensive sensor in my air intake... lost my entire top end ... nothing is worse than trying to accelerate and having only overtap the pedal to bog the motor. Eww... that stung....

            Digressing.....

            In everyones opinion for pods what is the better way to go? * I know this is a can of worms question.. * I have not tackled my carburators and always had help from another guy who worked on harley's last time I needed a good servicing. K&N or the Uni-foam ... there an easy way to tell if they will need adjustment? Or will I simply have to ride and do plug readings?

              K&N is the best way to go in my opinion. They are built to last. They dont really break down, if kept properly oiled. Yeah they are a lil 'spensive, but you will seldom, if ever have to buy another set.

                Yep: I agree with CafeKid. However, you WILL have to rejet and make needle adjustments with the K&Ns.

                If you are goin' to do it right go with the K&Ns and buy the DynaJet kit.

                I don't mean to say that it is impossible to "do it right" with the Uni-foams.....it may or may not take some tweaking.
