I can't tell what it is from the photos. Maybe if it were a Kaw ;-)
    Help appreciated.

Not sure I want to help Mr Kawasaki lover...

Bike in question looks like a second generation GS550 - E model I think.

Yep, just like the wife's "85" GS 550 "ES", except this one has the smaller "E" fairing.

Hey now, I ride a GS1000G too. I just know Kaws a lot better.
Have about 15 bikes in various states.
Z1A, KZ1000A1, KZ1100B2, KZ1000M1, GS1000GT, A7, CB650, CB305f, CB500T, CB400A, Ft500, T100 x 2, CB750, CB-1. Have tags on 4 of them. Have a few extra engines and frames that will eventually morph into ridable bikes. I'm fond of the $100 bike. Right now looking for a Suzuki Thumper project. Maybe GN400?? What other thumpers did/does Suzuki make?

I have a GN400. Its a sweet little thumper. You could also look at the savage 650 - I think that's a single.
