    Main air jet

Got a set of 1150 (36mm) carbs on my 1100. Got the main jet and needle dialed in but now to the pilot circuit.
45 is stock on these carbs with a 120 air jet. These WERE California carbs that had four air nipples that led into the carb body on the engine side of the butterflies. They went to a cannister that now obviously doesn't exsist. These are capped off.
The CA carbs came with a stock 120 air jet and the non-CA came with a 125. The non-CA had these capped off as I do and this is why I think the CA models came with a 120 air jets cause they did allow some air into the venturi.
I can't seem to get the bike to idle under 1500 rpms. I tried the 47.5 pilot jet and the 50 which under 1500 rpms would rich out and die. I put the 45s back in and are going to try them in the morning but last time were lean. I have the idle mixture screws out 5 turns to get it started and will see if I can get a decent idle.
I almost bought a set of four 130s on the air jets from Motorcyclecarbs.com. Does anyone have an opinion on this size? I would hate to order the wrong size online.
On my 1100 before head mods I had to go up ten on the air jets from 160 to 170 and it idled perfectly. With the anti-pollution nipples blocked off and those carbs (non-CA) came with a 125 maybe I should start with a 135.
Maybe I should try pulling the caps off the carbs and try other combos. I'd hate to do this and let unfiltered air into the engine.

Got a smooth idle at 1100 rpms with the 45 pilot jet and removing the emission caps. We'll see how it runs on the road. I bet it pops on deaccel.
Ordered the 130 air jets and will try the 47.5 with these when they come in.

The air jet is just too small. Even with the 45 pilots it dies under 1500 rpms. I bought the 130 air jets from motorcyclecarbs.com. Now the waiting game.
I think I'll start with the 47.5 pilots when I get them.

ok you got me a bit confused (not hard this early in the morning) is the idle your only issue?

idle mixture is adjusted via the pilot jet and pilot bleed air screw.

the air jet controls the amount of air that mixes with the gas in the main emulsion tube.

did you check the rubbers on the choke plungers?

all else fails watch for a set of Canadian carbs on E-bay, no freaking sealed bleed air jets and they just work so much better for some reason.

I had gone through and reset my carbs back to original settings and got them working pretty good with the exception of the original black paint missing.

well Buddy stumbled across a set of carbs that still were black on E-bay and I tossed out a bid and actually won them.

well after they arrived I popped the bowls off and other than a very small amount of fine silt they were clean and smelled very fresh.

well I put them on and man! right out of the box the idle is perfect and Rosie runs much better!

with stock jetting and set to original settings the idle was fishy with the original American carbs, sometimes it idled high, sometimes it idled low.
          GOD BLESS THE CANADIANS!!!!!! \\/

The only issue is the idle. The correct term for the jet is the pilot air jet. Sorry for the confusion.

I have a set of 160's that would fit. The ones in mine are 180's. 130 seems much smaller, must be a diff setup I guess....

Yeah, I was thinking the same but stock is a 120. I tried a 160 and it wouldn't even run. I think the 130s I ordered will do the trick. :-D
