    Pilot Jet Plug

While I was disassembling carb #3, I noticed when I removed the float bowl that the black pilot jet plug was just laying in the bottom of the float bowl. It is somewhat deformed and looks kinda mashed somehow. Needless to say, I will need a new one. But it made me wonder, what is the purpose of the pilot jet plug and what effect does it have on the carb if it falls out and is sitting in your float bowl? -Chuck

chances are it fell out after you pulled the bowl off,if you look at the bowl closely where the plug lines up, you can see a molded in standoff that holds the plug into the pilot jet hole. As far as the purpose, I have been wondering the same myself.

The plugs is meant to close off and complete the low-speed fuel circuit, but it (the plug) is removable to allow for easy access to the low-speed jet.

Four new ones through the Suzi dealer are cheap. I just installed four new ones (little black plugs) in mine, and o-rings, and dipped them for fun. Oh ya, a little polishing while I was at it.

Thanks Basic. I was wondering what held it in place. Wonder how mine got all mangled up though.

it was placed there on the us market carbs so people wouldnt be tempted to play with that screw and doing so exceed the emissions regulations of the time
the rest of the world was allowed to play with those screws (no caps)

wrong one, he is asking about the one on the inside on the pilot jet not the pilot bleed air screw.

the pilot jet gets it gas from the main via a opening between the two.
if the plug is not in the emulsion tube will draw way WAY WAY to much gas as it will be bypassing the main jet screwed in the bottom.
