    Petcock opinion - Stay orginal or go aftermarket?

    Hello all. Having found a tank and cleaned my carbs, I'm trying to decide if I want to purchase a stock petcock or go with an aftermarket one for my 1980 GS750L. The tank is off an '81, so it does use the petcock with the lever. I know that a lot of people have issues with the vacuum petcocks, and recommend replacing them. I like the idea of a vacuum controlled petcock (no havign to remember to turn off or on the fuel) but the price of an aftermarket 3/8" NPT is very temping. I have a friend with a machine shop who could make me the adapter plate for nothing. Anyone have any opinions on which way to go? Which will last longer? Thanks in advance

    Buy original Suzuki tap. Might cost you $100, maybe a bit less. You won't have to worry about fuel delivery for another 20 years.

      You will find a number of votes in both directions, but I think the (slight) majority of them will favor the stock petcock. Look at the different parts houses, Bike Bandit, Z1 Enterprises, Alpha PowerSports, CRC2, and others, you will probably find the petcock for considerably less than $100. And, as Suzuki_Don suggests, you won't have to worry about petcock issues for another 20 years or so. 8-[

        Z1 Enterprises sell aftermarket vacuum petcocks that are reasonable quality for about $46 or so. I'd either go that way or spend a little more and get the Suzuki part.

          Rebuild kits for stock petcocks are less that $20 from Suzuki. Unless the metal castings have been screwed up, that should also fix you up for another 20 years.

            i just replaced my petcock on my 81 gs550t got it from a suzuki dealer paid $59. and some change i fill you should always go with oem when you can

              Suzuki stuff is fine, and won't ever burn your bike and your house down if you forget to shut it off.
