Self-canceling turn signals question

Mine doesnt return to center either, but I do believe there is a detent in the switch assy that let you be able to use the switch from either side on mine I can push it left for left turn from the left side position and push it right from the r/side position to go right. Hope this helps

as mentioned above, there are 5 positions
3 - 2 - 1 - 2 - 3
the knob is supposed to automatically return from the OUTERMOST position (#3) into the position #2
mine gets stuck in pos #3
i'm looking for a remedy to this problem, if known [-o<
(short of buying a new assembly that comes up on fleabay from time to time for like $100)
