Don, I can give you the recipe for another good cleaning solution as the components are easy to find. Use equal parts kerosine, mineral spirirts (or turpentine) and automatic transmission fluid. You can also add in an equal part of acetone as long as you put nothing plastic or rubber in the solution.
This is an old recipe for a firearm cleaning solution called "Ed's Red" and it works great.
