I should pay myself for all the hours I have spent on carburetting... what a learning experience.

I'm lucky (and no I don't work for them), I put a dynajet stage 3 kit in after going to individual K&N filters (stock exhaust) and it nailed it. Ran perfect with no adjustment. The plugs are a bit sooty, but this has been traced to weak spark from crappy old stock coils and cracked wires. The 3 ohm dynatek coils on the way should take care of that.

I’m going to try shimming the needles a smidge to see how this affects things, but the bike doesn’t need drastic action or anything and I hate to give up mpg with gas prices the way they are.

One interesting thing about the 850 is that Suzuki changed the cam timing and added an exhaust cross-over chamber in order to improve midrange power. Not sure what year these changes were introduced, 1980 or 1981, at the same time they switched to CV carbs I think. If someone had an early bike it would be interesting to try the later cams so see if they really make a difference.

Interesting. My '80 has the mounts for the crossover, but it's not there. The screws are even bottomed out in the pan, holding nothing. I've been hearing about this crossover, but I totally don't get how it helps when only two cylinders are affected. Or is it only those two that get the boost? BikeBandit's fiche called it a pre-muffler.

Found this in my "box" of magazines and scanned it in.
It is the 1979 CycleWorld specs of Suzuki GS850G.
Hopefully I can actually upload it for you all to see.

If you can't read it, email me and I'll send you a copy of the jpg.

        Hope this helps!
