Cheng Shin Hi-Max is a great value - about $46. http://www.bikebandit.com/product/3423?WT.mc_id=5255 I'm getting a set when my current tires wear out. Obviously, this is just my opinion - there are lots of great tires available. You should do a search to get more info.
As a side note, I run 120 rear tires on my 550 currently. It's a good size match for the bike, although a HI-Max is not available in that size.
Good luck.Last edited by Nessism; 03-29-2008, 10:56 PM.Ed

For that money, you can install two new Cheng Shins instead of leaving the old front tire on there. This would give you a far better result than a top-shelf rear tire and an old front.
Front tires don't wear in an obvious way the same as rears, but they do wear and cause handling problems. In almost all cases it's an excellent idea to replace tires as a set.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

I bought 2 new (front and rear) Cheng Shin HiMax tires for under $100 including shipping!
I still don't have more than 1k miles on them so I can't give a "how long they last" story but they ride and handle very nice.
Note: I don't think these are rated for over 120 mph if that's what you're looking for!

Gonna go to my local shop and see what they stock (or can get today). If they have any brands not covered I'll post it.
