shims
what does it mean when it says 2.65x on a shim? because on my motor, there is a 2.65x valve with a clearance too small for a .05 feeler to fit, but when i put a 2.70 in, the gap is .11mm.Tags: None

X shims are thicker than regular shims. Very valuable for getting the clearance "just right".Ed

X shims are normally .02 or .03mm thicker than normal shims.
In later models (I was recently working on a 2005 GS500 engine), the shims are actually marked 2.78, 2.62, etc. In ye olden days, these would have been 2.75x and 2.60x.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

otherwise something's wrong- either how you measured or the shim size is way off!
