What is this?

What is this? I found it sitting on the crankcase of my 77 GS750B. Just sitting there under the carbs.

It appears to be some kind of grommet or bushing but for what? Did it fall off my bike? It says "Made in Japan" on the back.

Its about 3cm wide at the base. The smaller part is 2 cm wide. The hole is 11mm. It is made of hard rubber.

That would be my guess as well.

Agreed: that should be the bushing that the bolt runs through to bolt/mount your tank at the rear (at the front of your seat).

I'm not surprised it was misplaced. Those things have a tendency to fall away when you remove your tank.:?

yep: that is why my work-shop (although possessing a gravel floor) has carpet covering the entire surface (old greasy, filthy, stained carpet). Machine parts really stick out on carpet!

Thanks so much. Now that I look at it with the tank and the frame it is obvious.

Funny thing...I saw this several days before I removed the tank. I think it has been sitting there since June 07 when the PO took it for a tune up. I'm glad to have it and will use it when I reassemble the bike.

I thought the tank felt a little wobbly.

Buy a new rubber bushing when you order a batch of Suzuki parts -- it's maybe $2 and will keep your tank in place much better.

I replace all the grommets, bushings, cushions, and bumpers I can. It really makes a bike feel, sound, and look a little newer, and it's safer, too.

Fortunately these bits were still there. This is what was holding the tank on. But, without the bushing it was a little wobbly. I bet it will be a lot better with ALL the parts installed!

It will be a few weeks before I get to put the tank back on. I have the valve cover off now checking the clearances and will pull the carbs off after that.
