Also clean both ends of the main ground wire from the engine to the battery. That made a huge difference on my bike & it's even less work than the relay mod.

It sounds like the coil mod is the agreed upon next step. How exactly is it done, and what do I need to check with my multimeter?
Thanks guys!

Charge your batt, and try it again. Sounds like your battery has a bit of a slow discharge, or perhaps it wasnt running long enough to get it charged back up from before when it WOULD start.

hey cory, i just did the mod yesterday, along with new plug wires. havent started it yet, but the mod is easy, look on bikecliff's little site for a concise version, too. i got my relay with a socket for 10 bucks at my local ace hardware, monted it up under the spine, you cant even see it with the tank off. i will start it tonight after work, maybe it cured my cold #3 pipe? anyway, it is easy, even if you solder the connections....though i think just crimping would be better than stock anyway. we are close, bud, and once we get it all sorted out, it will be tens of thousands of miles of bliss. at least until the next thing breaks.....hehe. maybe i should just get a harley, less wrenching that way....KIDDING, PLEASE DONT PULL MY GSR MEMBERSHIP!!!1983 GS 1100 ESD :D

Let me know how you make out if you do the coil mod. I have been thinking about doing this on reassembly.

Being one to look at the positive... All the stuff I did in the first month of owning this bike has gotten me to the point I can pull the tank and put it back on in probably a combined 73 seconds!

Im a bit out of practice since the winter had hit and i had to stop tuning, but there was a point where i could get my carbs off and on in less than 2 minutes...Course i dont have an air box, so that makes it much easier..heh.
Seriously tho Cory. These bikes started for years without the relay mod. Im not saying NOT to do it, but i would follow Steves advice and get it running first.
