Looking for guidance
I have inherited a 81 gs850g. I am attempting to return it to its former glory. However, I am a novice in motorcyle engines. I have an oil leak in my stator cover. Is there supposed to be oil in this housing? I am also in need of rebuilding the carbs. Does anyone know of a good place to get kits? I tried a motorcycle dealership before and they said my bike was too old...any suggestions? Thanks for any help bringing the fire back into the "BROWN BOMBER".Tags: None

the oil in the stator cover is supposed to be there. cools the stator from all those electrons moving. dont bother with carb rebuild kits. get a set of orings from robert barr (cycleorings.com) and some berrymans carb dip and you should be set. BassCliff will be along shortly.

A dealership COULD have gotten those parts, what a-holes. That being said, only shop at the dealership if you need it NOW, Many online sources way cheaper.

Brown bomber welcome to forum. As catbed states, oil is indeed inside stator cover, you may simply need a new gasket to seal up leak. As for the carbs, most of us have great luck cleaning carbs and replacing the o rings with the carbs as stated. The kits are available but pricey and of questionable quality, the o rings are top quality and very inexpensive. Basscliff is the unofficial greeter and has enough reading material to you busy for a few nights:-D. Post your questions or search around, we are here to help.
