Spacing problem on rear spoked wheel 1000c

i've rebuilt a 79 gs1000c and, when test driving, found the rear caliper was pushing into the disc. it seems there is a shim on the inside of the disc and i think if that wasn't there it might not happen. not sure.

the questions - does anyone know about the differences between spoked and regular wheels? are the spacers different? is the gizmo that holds the caliper different?

i may have used some parts from an e model when putting it together.

Did you use ALL of the spacers when you put it back together? I did an 1100 aluminum swinger conversion on my 750 cafe project, retaining my wire wheels, and i had an excess of space left over which i had to make up for with some washers. Seems the 1000s and 1100s had spacers that the 750 didnt use, so there was obviously some space left over.

I am not possitive, but the hub on the wires might stick out just a bit farther than the stock wheels, but i had no problem getting things to line up other than the excess space left over.

yep, all the spacers are in place like the book shows but i can't tell if something is a different size from the book. maybe i'll check the bikebandit schematics and see if the part numbers are the same.

done, the inner right spacer has a different part number. don't know what it means though.

The spacers are different from spoked to cast wheels. If you want I could post a picture of the spacers?

I put an 82 rear rim on my 80 and the spacing was different. I used washers to line up the sprocket and the brake caliper.

The spacers stay with the wheel. If you put cast wheels where the spokes came from, the spacers that were originally with the cast wheels will need to be used. I can't remember if the one that is different is the one between the caliper mount & the hub or between the caliper mount & the swingarm. Just remember the spacers stay with the wheels they came with.

that would be cool but if you could just measure them and tell me any differences that might let me know where i'm at.

i guess i'll be taking it apart next chance i get and seeing if i have spacers that are different sizes.

took it apart, did some measuring, looked at stuff, walked around in circles, mumbled to self and then i found a few big washers and placed them in strategic positions on the axle. looks good, thanks for all replies.

Sorry, I tried to get measurments, but with the wheel on the bike, virtually impossible. Glad you got it sorted.
