    makeshift gasket?

After taking the exhaust of my bike to do some work on the engine, I noticed that one of the clamps securing one of the center pipes into the rest of the exhaust had been damaged. When taking the clamp off out came a little gasket that had all but deteriorated. When bringing these two small parts to my local shop they priced that little gasket at like $38! Ouch..

is there any substitute for this gasket? maybe if I go to a muffler shop?

    anyway thanks!

Go to a muffler shop and ask. They usually have an assortment of manifold gaskets, clamps etc in stock. You may find it costs you $38 anyway.

    You can only try.

Find some on-line. If I'm thinking of the same thing, I just got some for my 850, and I'm sure I would remember paying more than a couple bucks.

if you are talking about the copper that goes under the clamshell, your local parts store is smoking some hardcore drugs. i bought mine off bike bandit for about a buck each.

I believe you're talking about the "sleeves" underneath between the pipes.

They're about $17 each at BikeBandit, and yes, they are important -- I finally had to replace mine to cure a decel lean pop.
