    Generator Assembly

    I just discovered that one of the 2 tiny little springs were broken on what Bike Bandit.com showed as the generator assembly. Does anyone have any idea how that would affect the performance of my engine? It seems to have some mid range power loss / strange things happening and am hoping that this is the answer.
    Currently bikeless

    I looked at the generator assembly and can't find the two springs you are talking about...are they located on the starter clutch, maybe?

      The signal generator- on the other side of the stator (sorry, didnt use the right name). It's shown here: http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit...=GS1100%28X%29 Its at the top of the page, they call it the govenor assy. (advancer?) I don't even really know what it does. Can anyone explain? Anyway, one of those little springs is broken. Any idea how that would affect the performance?

        Yes, it will greatly effect performance. The spring tension is used to control your ignition timing advance...you need to fix it!

          Those springs hold your timing cam in place. As the revs advance the centrifugal weights move out against the springs and advance the ignition. Without the springs you are too advanced too early.

          However, they said the same about Mozart. :-)
