    Mystery oil leak.

Ok I got this oil leak but cant find out where. Before I smashed my bike with a sledge hammer I figured I'd jump on here and see it there was any solutions. Ok I thought it was coming out of the valve cover. Replaced the gasket.... still leaked. Then I thought I saw it coming out of the tach cable connection, which would have made sense since my tach cable end only had half of it still there, replaced the cable got it tight and guess what... still leaks. Is there anything I should look for? I'm scared its going to be the dreaded head gasket.

Could be the O ring in your tacho drive. Sounds like you're gonna have to wipe it clean and very carefully look for where the oil is coming from.

Hey there Big.My '79 'S had a similar leak and it turned out to be the little (1/4 inch--6mm) bolt in front of the cam chain journal at the front of the engine(into the head). The thread was stripped so I got the exact length bolt and fixed it with a Nylock nut.Could be...?Cheers,Simon.:-D

Ok guys I'll check both. But I'm leanin towards that o-ring thing. I could wiggle my tach cable and watch oil try to seep out before I changed it and my old cable had oil all up in the housing. But the amount of oil it leaks it just seems like something else. Its on the front of the engine somewhere I know because when I park it I can watch it drip of the engine.

It's a good bet it needs replacing, even if that's not your problem.
