    1985 GS700E Horsepower?

Is anyone aware of the 1985 GS700E's horsepower? I just got it as my first bike :-D

About 80 give or take a couple of hp. That's stock and running right.

I think back then they went with whatever the manufacturer said. They also went with HP "at the crank" which wouldn't equal dyno results. Still wicked fast.

They sure got the tire sizes screwed up on the spec sheet. Rest of it looks right though. That's pretty torquey for that little motor.

The 700 was destroked from 750 to beat the Harley tariff back in the mid '80s. Tests from back then stated the GS faired better than the competition when Suzuki dropped displacement. It lost very little power in losing 50cc. These things seem to be becoming more popular than they were back in the day.

Hypathetically speaking, who do you think would win in a race.

          Me
          1985 suzuki gs700e
          Rider weight - 175

          Newish R6
          HP-105
          Rider weight - 250

I've got 100 cc's on him but he's got 20 horsepower, yet I have weight. lol me and some friends have been having this argument for awhile. Not that it matters though....any ideas to make it look better than an r6 lol

Take it to the track and find out. You've got more bottom end and midrange torque, but he's got top end HP, speed and superior handling/cornering.

As long as the 600 doesn't completely blow the start he should walk away from you. Red light to red light you might take him with a really good start. Your bike is easier to launch but the new bikes rev high and fast.

Heh, it's not that important to me enough to find out at a track. Sucks having all your friends getting new crotch rockets and I have the GS. Good thing is I didn't pay a penny . Oh on a side note...I was outbid on ebay for a blinker I need by .25 so if anyone has a blinker, let me know

Hell, you can shave a few pounds right there. You can pick up a set of short stalks for $20-30 and the whole set will weigh less than one stocker. That is unless you want to keep it completely stock.

I don't care about stock, I was thinking about adding blinkers attached to the license plate frame, the stock ones look SOOOOOOOOOOOO goofy sticking out, plus they're made of cheap plastic and will be the first thing touching if I drop it.

The R6 would mop the floor with you. It weighs significantly less than your GS which will offset the greater rider weight.

                        wow

Gotta love my friend, just bought his R6 today. Has no riding experience what so ever except the occasional dirt bike. We don't have the motorcycle safety course until late June. What's the first thing he does? Takes the bike down his road doing 130 in nothing but a helmet. Thankfully he didn't wreck as most of you are probally hoping.

Give him time. Then everybody's insurance goes up $.50 next year to pay for his stupidity.
