    80 gs750 to 79 gs750 parts swap over
I am rebuilding a 80 gs750 I got a 79 engine was told the engine will not fit my frame so I get a 79 frame (80 bikes frame was a little bent) I need to know what will all swap over to the 79 from the 80's frame? Can any one help me out.

Pretty much notta damn thing i hate to say. The frames are different enough to make it a complete PITA to swap anything over.

Yeah, not too many years interchange well. The 650G years are one exception, as are the 650L's (within their models) but typically there are 2 or 3 years of overlap and when they change, everything can be different.

I've not done much with your model(s) but I've heard that '80 was a major design change for that size. PM people that have your bike(s) and ask them if they can spend some time to help sort it out.
1981 GS650G , all the bike you need
1980 GS1000G Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely

Having had an 80 750 here, and having worked on a couple of PRE 80 750s lately...I can tell you with out a doubt there is VERY VERY little that will interchange. For starters, nothing, with MAYBE the exception of the side covers will fit on the 79 frame from the 80 bike correctly. The shoulders on the 80 frame were a bit wider than the 79, therefore the tank tunnel is set up differently. Seat mounts were a bit different as well. You MAY be able to use the wiring harness, as most of that somewhat stayed the same, but you WILL need a manual with a wiring diagram (if you're lucky you will find one with a colour diagram) because the wiring while going to generally the same places, the colours are different. The 80 motor was a 16v TSCC high oil pressure motor with plain bearing crank, while the 79 motor was an 8v low pressure motor with a roller bearing crank. Even the dang kick and centerstands are different.

Make it a cafe racer :-D Lots of universal parts you can get to mod it. If the frame won't allow it, get out your torch and bend it to your will.

THere is a guy on Fleabay right now selling a bunch of 77-79 (which will interchange by the way. Anything 750 from 77-79 will work, minus a couple slight differences on the 77 which can easily be recitified.) anyway, selling a bunch of 7x body work, tank, tail, sidecovers, seat, pipes, etc, his BIN is recockulous, but ive been watching it for a while and it keeps getting relisted.

Some ebay guys never cease to amaze me. I've even emailed a couple.
"dude, I can get that OEM left hand control unit (or whatever) from any of the major parts houses for less than your STARTING price, why don't you knock that down a bit"
Instead I see it re-listed over and over and over.
