Carb Questions For Gs 1100 Gl 1982 Please Help !!

Hi I have 2 questions for my carb project on my GS 1100 GL 1982
#1 how many turns out from bottom should the idle mixture screw be turned ??

#2- someone has had these apart before me and was missing parts etc,can someone please tell me the order of parts going back into mixture screw port !!Is it in order
_small alluminum washer on bottom
_small rubber "O" ring
_small spring
_mixture screw

Generally, all these GS carbs are 1.5 to two turns out i do believe? Also, for a good pictorial involving the parts in your carbs, and the proper cleaning proceedures, hit up the Garage section on the FRONT PAGE of the GSResources.com for the Mikuni BS carb tutorial

Start with two full turns, then, when the engine is fully warmed up, tweak each one, listening for highest engine rpm.

The order for the mixture screws should be:
1. rubber o-ring
2. small washer
3. spring
4. mixture screw

I just rebuilt the totally stock carbs on my '80 GS1100 and started out at exactly 2 1/2 turns.....after running it for about 50 miles, I turned out 2 of them just slightly more. I'm not sure I'm done but it's really close and the bike runs fantastic. Yours may be different but that's where I am at this point.

By the way, when I rebuilt the carbs, I also adjusted the valves and synched the carbs after re-installing them.

Thanks i definitely got it wrong !! I put the alluminum washer in first ?!#* Looks like another hour in the garage swapping them out !!!

The washer is to keep the spring from cutting the o-ring.

From my experience most GS bikes run best at about 3 turns from lightly seated. As Steve notes though, the starting point is somewhat arbitrary; the screws should be adjusted until you achieve the highest idle speed.
