    Battery Performance

My 1981 GS1000G was off the road and in the shed for nearly 15 years.

New battery, carb clean, replacement R/R, new fluids and tyres and we were back on the road as good as new.

That was end of September 2007 with 29,000 km on the clock.

The bike is ridden at least once a week for a minimum of 70 kilometres with the headlight on.

After 7 months and 3,000 additional kilometres I checked the battery fluid level which was slightly down but within the min/max markers.

The bike starts instantly on full choke and the new battery has had no problems maintaining charge over the Australian summer months.

I'm aware of the electrical issues with these bikes but without doing the recommended tests all seems to be operating OK.

What sort of battery performance are others getting from similar machines?

I'm in Sydney Australia not far from the coast, so winter temperatures rarely go below 40 degrees Farenheit.

How often do you check your electrical systems performance?

I'm working on maintaining the bikes relabilty and the charging system seems to be the Achilles heal.

    Any thought or comments?

hm, sure hope you have a good excuse

seriously... for a peace of mind you may want to attend to your electrical connections and then perform the charging system test

by the sound of it though, your system is likely ok

in your climate (but also depending on use) and with a battery minder (if not ridden weekly at least) a good battery would last for years
