    Unlce : How t oget 83 GS1100ED fork seals out

    Sorry, I have been searching the site and can't find much; want to post the question in hopes I can get the answer sooner.

    I have to install , Progressive springs, Racetech emulators, new oil and am now looking at new seals and what every rubber Teflon parts need replacing.

    * wheel are off
    * I have the forks off of the bike with springs removed
    * Have removed the anti dive units
    * removed the small damping adjusting thumb wheels at the bottom of the fork
    * removed the Allen head bolts (bottom of fork) and the the damping rods (and spring)
    * removed the snap ring and washer holding the fork seal

    And here is where I'm stuck .

    The manual is pretty vague at this point also the wrong year (80-81 GS1100E) The Haynes manual just says yank hard. I have read that you can use the air to blow the seals (sorry I'm past that stage).

    I could yank harder, but I'm afraid to break something. One of the forks had a little flat "wave??" spring floating around.

    I don't think I have broken anything irreparably yet so help save me from my self.; What next??

    What is holding the Stanchion (#9) inside of the lower leg (#20)?????

    If you've removed the allen bolt then as far as I know... nothing but a prayer.

    Pull harder.....

      OK Monk

      I got serious, ground down a bolt so I could put it through the brake mounting eyelets on the lower, and cranked it down into the vice. Yanked about as hard as I could. It took about 10 wacks on each lower to get the tubes off.

      Success and hardly any flying parts and the lowers are intact. More parts to order now......
      Thanks
