    GS1100esd/GS700es Instrument Gauges

Anyone ever troubleshoot these individual gauges ?? Not sure if the
oil temp gauge on the right corner is meant to be loose and spins freely
when turned upside down. I had a very serious short circuit that fried
most everything. These 2 individual gauges are my last hurdle in
having my bike up and running. The individual gas gauge on the upper
left corner does not work either. What a huge pain-in-the-ass this is !!

I've replaced the 22, 27, and 56 Ohm resistors on the side of these gauges, but still persists not to function.

Electronic Tachometer also sticks at 1500 RPM and just drives me
batty. Could be the indicator spring or the PC Board making this
needle react as it is. I'm going to tear into the cluster one more
    time.

Any advice is highly appreciated !! \\/

Years ago, my reg/rec fried and then I toasted several electrical components on my GS700, gauges included. I lost the tach, fuel level, and oil temp gauges. I took them to an electronics tech friend of mine ( I was in the military at the time), and he did some troubleshooting on them and told me he could probably fix them, but recommended I just get new gauges because he would essentially be replacing most of the individual electronic components on the circuit boards.

I found a new panel with all the gauges (essentially the whole gauge panel minus the outer covers) sitting on a shelf at the local Suzuki dealer. It had been ordered for some guy a few years earlier, but he had never picked them up. I haggled with the guy and walked out of the store with them for $90.

I had no idea what kind of great deal I got on them at the time.

Keep checking ebay. The 700 gauges pop up from time to time. By the way, they are not identical to the 1100ES gauges. The 1100 has a few more idiot lights and a battery level indicator.

      Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. I do have a spare GS700 instrument cluster that I recently purchased from Qui Chang Kane. I transplanted these guages but they are no good. I'm trying to distinct if the oil temp gauge
is a free-spinning spindle shaft with no resistance. This means you turn
the gauge over and the needle spins and moves on its own gravity.

You would think the indcator needle would be stable with resistance
and when the windings are energized from the oil temp sensor, the
      needle will deflect.

Have you experienced this by handling the oil temp guage by turning
the guage/cluster upside-down and the needle is loose on its own ??

      Thanks again,

I also had a serious short-circuit on my bike. Everthing had blown
        including the following:

        1. Headlamp
        2. All Dummy Indicator Lamps
        3. Rear Tail Lamp
        4. All Turn Signal Lamps
        5. Electronic Tach
        6. Oil Temp Gauge
        7. Gas Gauge
        8. R/R
        9. Oil Pressure Switch
        10. Coils (Acting -Up)
        11. Etc...

I'm now trying to resolve the instrumenation issues. I will remove the
cluster one more time today. I have a California Gold Rush Bike run on historic Highway 49 tomorrow morning. It is an excellent bike run.
