1983 GS 850 GL--need to find a replacement set of final gears for this ride. I have read back 4 years in forum, and lots of posts about single models or years that will swap out here. Can anyone provide a comprehensive list of models, years and designations to allow me to keep the pumpkin I have (it's sooo pretty) but swap out the final drive gear set? I will be installing a new driven gear as well. Thanks you guys. I love this site...

the gears (as a set) can be interchanged between any 850G/L, 1000G/L and 1100G/L and 1100GK.
using the final drive gears from a 83 1100G, GL,GK or a 84 1100GK will lower your RPM at any given speed over the original 850 gears. -
Easiest path is to polish the aluminum on a used final drive unit. The unit below was sanded/polished working up to 600 grit followed by Mother's polish. If you want the OE look, skip the polish stage and stop at 600.
BTW, unit is from '83 1100GL (one of the tall gear units Focus is referring to).
Going to install it in my 850 - should drop the freeway rpm by approximately 300 rpm at normal speeds.
