Which Fork is direct swap for 78 gs1000?

    Hi,

I was thinking of radically restyling my gs1000, however I have now decided to make it stock with slight improvements.

I would like to know which forks I should look for so that I can have dual discs on the front. Or if you know of a better way please tell me.

    Thanks,

The forks, discs and calipers from a 1980 GS1000ET will go straight on.You'd be best to get a complete front end with wheel.
Do you have spoked wheels? Not sure if the second disc will go on the spoked wheel. If not you'd have to get a cast rear wheel to match your new front.
The 1980 calipers are a bit better, and the discs are a bit lighter and slotted.

Yes you need a complete front end. Spacing for the triple tree is wider with dual discs. Anything 78-81? GS 850, GS1000 should work. DON'T get one from an L model. Another option would be to install a later style front end w/17" wheel, would also require changing the rear to match.

Yeah, I've got spokes. I really want to change those. Primarily I wanted a nice fatty on the back, such as a late model gsxr wheel. But after a brief discussion with a mech, I learned that they are lower in profile, thus I would be dropping my bike's height.

Too much to do. I'll just get older cast wheels, and paint them.

So the best bet is to get a complete front end from a 81 or 82 gs1000?

I'll search, but know I know where.

        Thanks
