    stator or just pulser coils???

I have a 1980 750L. Im not getting any fire on 1 and 4 cylinders so I hooked the coil to the 2 and 3 side and it fires so the coil is good. Now Im a newbee, so correct me if im wrong but from there Ide look to the pulser coils on the front of the stator right? obviously one isnt working, right? can I get just the pulsers or do I need a whole new stator? Also I havent bought a repair manual yet, does anyone have a link? Ide love to see exploded diagrams of the things I have trouble with on this bike.Any info (other than what ive already read about rectifier problems) would be great.

Stator is for the charging system, you are referring to the Signal Generators (magnetic pickup coils).

Regarding your Signal Generator failing on one side, check the signal with a test light - probe a test light at the coils. Coil failure is more common. If the signal generator is bad, look at ebay for a used one - sold in pairs with the back plate.

For a manual, search on "basscliff" and go to his site, he has links to manuals.

    Good luck.

OK. after some research i see that Im lookin at a new signal generator(or spark generator, or pulser, depending on who your talking to! ) and/or a new ingiter, (or ignition, or ignition booster, depending on who your talking to!). Ive read on here how to test both so im gonna do that and see what I come up with. Thanks Nessism

Woo Hoo! I fixed it! After having checked and cleaned all my conections from the igniter to the coils and to the signal generator I decied to double check them all again. Now keep in mind this bike has been parked indoors its whole life so corrosion and rust are almost nil, I was sure after cleaning all the harnesses it wasnt a connection problem but low and behold, after starting the bike and doing some wiggling of wires I was able to pinpoint 1 wire, very slightly loose , not appearing damaged in any way, that was the cause of my headache. Cleaned it, a drop of solder, and all fixed!
