    Where can I get kerosene???

I feel like a 'dummy' for asking but where can I buy a small amount of kerosene? I don't want 5 gallons....only about 1 gallon. I can't figure out where I can get it. Last time, I settled for diesel but would really prefer kerosene. Thanks!:-D

Dang, do you live in Hawaii or some always warm place? every gas station around here has a kerosene pump.

You can usually get one or two gallon jugs at Lowe's. The best places to find stuff like that are "real" hardware stores, like locally-owned Hardware Hank, Ace, Do-It Center, etc... stores.

If you have a Tractor Supply or Rural King type of farm supply store near you, I guarantee they'll have kerosene available in gallon sized containers.

Heating oil delivery guys might tell you where you can buy it retail. I found a independent fuel oil delivery place which also pumped cheap gas and they had a kerosene pump in the back.

Usually for less than $10 you can get it at any Sport/Camping store in 1 gallon cans, I think made by coleman for the pump up lanterns and camp stoves.

If you are looking for something to clean parts in, Mineral Spirits (paint thinner) works great and is very mild. If you collect the used stuff and store it in a clear two liter soda bottle, the heavy sludge will settle to the bottom and you can reuse the stuff on the top. The odorless mineral spirits are slightly more expensive but worth it if you are sensitive to the smell.

Diesel pump at your local gasoline provider?
Or buy jet fuel at the local airport.
                  It's all about the same.

If you're looking for a good parts cleaner, see if you have any local sources of biodiesel (B100/B99.9). If you think diesel/Jet-A/kerosene hate grease, you ain't seen nothin yet! Plus it's much friendlier to you or the environment and to your skin/sinuses/etc... Check craigslist or one of the billion biodiesel forums to see if there's a homebrewer nearby that will sell you an off-batch or non-taxed/non-road stuff.

Lamp oil from any grocery store (rustyb beat me to it...). Comes in convenient quart containers and several appealing scents as well.

You still haven't revealed exactly WTF you're planning to do with it, though, so this may or may not be an appropriate substitute.

For parts cleaning, I simply buy WD-40 by the gallon and put it in a plastic spray bottle. It cleans up greasy stuff just as well as most stinkier stuff, but mainly I use it because it doesn't stink like kerosene or mineral spirits and it's reasonably non-flammable -- no evil vapors to ignite inconveniently.

Very true, Dan, good call. Biodiesel hates lots of things, including paint, o-rings (viton OK, nitrile or n-buna not good), asphalt and terrorists. Fortunately it loves your health, the environment, farmers and your freedom.
