    Front fork question

Ok, so I took my front fork off so I could re-paint my frame.
Everything was good when I took the frame apart. Now that it's all done and I have it put together the front fork doesn't support any weight. Any time I get on the bike the front fork sinks way down. Read in the clymer manual saying there is air in the fork and it needs to be added with a hand pump. Wondering if anyone has some tips how to add more air or make the fork more rigid.
This is on a 82 GS650GLZ. Thanks for any tips.

Did you actually take of the fork caps and pull the innards out of the fork legs? If so, check bikebandit.com for a picture of your front end and make sure all internal parts of in the proper order and present inside each leg.

I actually kept the whole front fork together. Kept the wheel and brake
all together too. Only removed the top nut holding it onto the frame.
Not sure why it worked before and now it won't hold any weight.
Has anyone ever added more air to there forks?

        Hi Mr. silverkrown,

I run 10-15psi in my forks depending on the ride I want. Once I find the time to install Progressive springs and use the correct size spacer for my weight, I won't need air for preload.

But since you didn't take your forks apart, I am at a loss as to why they sag so badly now.

        Thank you for your indulgence,

        BassCliff
